“This painting was done on site at a beautiful nature preserve called Lake Smith in Virginia Beach. It was cloudy that day and the sun was periodically shining through the autumn tree foliage. There was a beautiful green algae on the surface of the water that was circling and swirling with the breeze. Plein air painting (painting outdoors) is very unique in that you are synthesizing a lot of atmospheric and light conditions into one single painting. Inevitably you end up with a painting that feels very much alive.”
